Blessed are those who mourn

Blessed are those who mourn
Matthew 5:4
By: Ev. Greg S. Regoh (middle adult worship service sermon July 18, 2010)
Brother ... Last week we talked about, the first beatitude is blessed are those who are poor before God because they're the owner of the kingdom of heaven. We've been talking about what is meant by the poor bebrhagialah dihadapn God, first; people who are poor before God are those who hunger and thirst for the truth of the Word of God; second: It depends entirely to God; three: humility before God.
Today we're talking about people who mourn blessed; Why did the Lord Jesus says blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be in comfort? What Jesus says is a contradiction. Jesus' teaching is certainly contrary to the thinking world. In a world of grief is not a joy. Even in the belief among some tribes Tiong Hoa that grief is identical with misfortune. Therefore a lot of customs and traditions that define the grief, or deal with people dying.
One time I attended the death of parents student in Pinyu, on his way home from the funeral, I happened to know there was one mother whose house we passed because my mother knows this, so I wanted to come, but there is one person who told it did not come home from the funeral people should stop at the house later the father would bring bad luck to their families ... so finally I did not stop, just waving ... brother's beliefs from people who do not know God. That death is a jinx. In fact there is one tribe in the liturgy of worship sorrow there is one event to cry, so liturgical asked the family to cry for the last one, who did not want to cry forced or obliged to weep.
Brother. If we mourn it's not easy for us to be in entertainment, let alone be happy. Especially if the dead are our loved ones or valuable objects. Some time ago there was a mother who lost money so banya, she was so sad and so hard for that money meluapakan. We try to entertain but to whom it is difficult to accept.
Well .. you what Jesus meant by blessed are they that mourn, for they will be comforted.
First, we must ask: what is meant by sorrow mentioned here? Is the Lord Jesus, willing to talk about people who are grieving the loss of a loved one, or the Lord Jesus spoke of people who sad about losing a valuable object? Or is there another meaning?
Second: What is the meaning of comfort that the Lord Jesus mean here? Does it mean that 'they shall be comforted'? Does that mean, that you will feel happy, that the Lord Jesus will make you feel happy again because you have suffered a miserable time? Now, we must understand the spiritual depth of this teaching of Jesus.
In summary, consolation in the words of God, essentially related to safety. Comforted in the word of God, not merely means that given a sense of fun, or like a little boy who sadly ago in love sweets, laughing and immediately jump up --- (same with our children, when she sadly usual, we kiss or the love of sweets and she entertained). Comfort associated with the comfort of safety.
In the old covenant; comfort due to grief are always addressed to matters pertaining to safety: For example in Jeremiah 31:13, "I will turn their mourning into joy, will comfort them and cheer them after their grief." When we look at the context of this paragraph, you will notice that she relates to the safety of the Jewish nation, the safety of Israel. "I will change their mourning into joy, their sorrow into joy."
Psalm 30:12-13 says something similar, "a lament I've Kauubah be dancing, have you open kabungku fabric, waist belt you with joy, so my soul to sing praises to you, and do not be silent. LORD My God, forever I will sing praise to You. "
Here the psalmist testifies that God has changed the wailing into dancing, into the joy of joys ... When we look at all this, then we can see that comfort was related to safety. The meaning of consolation here is related to one's salvation from sin, to eternal life.
Then what is meant by sorrow? Or those who mourn as what is called happiness? This section does not talk about the grief for our loved ones left behind, or the things that we have.
Then what is the Lord Jesus, grief here:
I. Bereavement by sin
Brothers, in the Old Testament and New Testament records many people who mourn, for they do sin, for example, in Luke Jesus gives a parable about the Pharisee and tax collector praying, praying Pharisees, bhw thankful I was not the same as another person, not a burglar , despotic, not adulterers and not like the tax collector, tax collector praying TTP, with a broken heart he came to the Lord, he did not dare look at the sky, standing at a distance and, and, slapping him, she said "O Allah have mercy on me, me person sin .. Zacchaeus ...
Mr. The tax collector is, conscious of his sin, and he was very upset with the sins committed, people like this are called by Jesus is who mourn, people like this are called to be happy and get comfort from God .. not like the Pharisees who felt that he lived decent and right before God.
Dear friends, In the long Perjjanjian when David sinned, he was committing adultery with Bathsheba, and he admonished by the prophet Nathan, he will be aware of his sin, he was in mourning and sorrow. He wept before God because of sin.

Last week we learned about "Blessed are the poor in spirit." Here the poor means that we recognize with full awareness of the impropriety and the powerlessness of man before God. People who are aware of the impropriety and helplessness due to his sins, he will feel poor before God. Sinners, and has been touched by God he understood correctly what he was, so he felt poor before God.
Those who mourn over sin is a conscious person has hurt the heart of God. He was conscious of having deviated from God's intention that has been created. He is aware of can not meet the standards of God's holiness. Especially if he knows what is right but still do what is wrong. Then she'll be very sorry for their sins that.
Illustration: There was a mother who is so busy, so to pay attention to the child, she did not have time, he had gone early to work, come home that night, even he never bathe their children. His son often asks his mother to bathe, but his mother said, is not no nun. This kid has a longing for his mother at all times menggantar or pick him to school, but always said there was no time. One time this kid, his foot stepped on a nail, her sisters said, the brother hit the nail his feet, he felt pain and fever, her mother was saying this is tomorrow night after work we just take it to the doctor, now give him medicine to reduce the Panadol heat, tomorrow he not have to go to school.
It turns out this kid get tetanus, and when mother and father to work the next day this child died. Father's mother was so sad, the mother was very sad and very sad because he was negligent, and did not notice her child, even his son asks for his bathing she did not have time, and that day he was bathing the children of the first and last time.
Brother can imagine how sad heart of this mother, ... Dear friends, if we draw about the meaning of the word "mourning" referred to the Lord Jesus as the sadness of this mother. Words of grief, giving the sense of a tremendous sorrow, sorrow that is unbearable. Therefore, we feel regret not living in accordance with the will of God.
Brother, have we ever cried and screamed at the sight of God because we are sinners. We deserve a penalty. We feel unworthy in God's holy presence. If ever this is how I would call a sorrow for sin.
Have we ever fallen in sin, and we cry, we feel that before God we are so disgusted?
Brother. Before, I never cried because of sin, I know that the grace of God, so wonderful for me, God so loved me, but I wasted the grace of God, I live in sin. When I realized that I am innocent, I feel unworthy, even I felt that God was no longer possible to forgive all my sins ... but after I confess, I got relief and comfort from God.
Do you ever cry because your sins, the sins you have done or you ever regret and mourn when you have hurt someone else? Or have we ever not cry for the sins we do?
The Psalmist in Psalm 39:13 reveals how she wept and mourn the sins committed. It says, "Hear my prayer, O Lord, and give ear to the cry for help, do not see my tears in silence! For I ride on you, I'm newcomer like all my ancestors." In verse 9 he says, "Deliver me from all my transgressions do not remain silent ..... see my tears." Here we see that the psalmist understands what it is repentance, a repentance not only sorry, but forget and feel sorrow for his sin.
Convey the same thing at the preacher in Ecclesiastes 7:3-4, "Grieving is better than laughter, because it makes the heart glad, looking sad. Wise man is happy in the funeral home, but a fool is happy in the house where merry."
Brother, what the preacher is a truth, because the place of grief, we find many people to believe. Of people do not believe, to believe God. (In the church we are many people who experience repentance after they attended a relative who died), but strangely many people prefer to place the party, cinemas, discotheques and others. People interested in rare events of grief .. Because they think that the comfort that can not find places like that.
However, if we think back, where what happened many sins? Is the funeral home? No. .., but a lot of entertainment places we humans find sin, even to people who either enter entertainment places will even be people who are not good. Today, when people from stress, a lot of trouble, he sought comfort; where do they go? to discos, karaoke, get a consolation, but who expect to get the opposite thing.
How can we understand the meaning of true comfort? To understand the meaning of
True comfort, then we must first understand what it means to mourn. By understanding the meaning of sorrow then we'll understand the meaning of joy, and true comfort. People who do not know what it means to cry do not know what it means to relief. This was said by the preacher here. "Grieving is better than laughter, because it makes the heart glad, looking sad."
Nothing is more refreshing than the tears of repentance: is like we are experiencing hunger and get a glass of cool water, then when we drink it we will get relief, as well as, people who have ties and struggles by the sin that bound. But with God's mercy he was relieved of his sins.
Bereavement it should not only exist when we first know the Lord Jesus. Bereavement was supposed to be there every time we sin, and after realizing it. If after a sin or fallen in sin, but we do not mourn, we do not feel sad or benyesal and beduka for our sins, then we should need to ask ourselves, is there the Holy Spirit in our hearts? Because every believer when he fell in sin, must have experienced what it is sadness, regret akn a sin we have done.
For the believer, sorrow for sin is a sign that we are sensitive and we hate the sin. It also became a kind of warning would be the condition of our relationship with God, whether near or far away. But this grief does not appear by itself and can not be artificial. This is the work of the Holy Spirit accompanied by our repentance.
Sensitivity to sin that causes grief is also increasing sharply as we increasingly understand the Word of God. By understanding the Word of God, we understand the perfect will of God, what is right and wrong. Since it opened to the Holy Spirit, obedience, and investigate God's Word will make us more sensitive to sin and grieve over it.
II. Sorrow for sins of others
What makes us grieve and mourn? Lost something precious ... a keilangan money ... lost treasure? Have we weep to see so many brothers and sisters we are far from God and living in sin.
Are you seeing people fall into sin, we feel sad, or we think it not my business ... if when you see someone mess we are grieving families, whether we feel sad when the churches no longer think about evangelism, but busy with the financial and organization
Lord Jesus, crying, not because of sadness or grief by the death of someone but when he saw people around him did not believe him. He wept for Jerusalem, because they did not know God, who is right and do not receive salvation from God.
Brother, why should we mourn over sin, other people, because God has loved us, he died on the cross for our sins, he also has taught us to share news of salvation to others. But we saw that many people who live outside of God. They're running towards destruction ...
Brother, several years ago in the USA came a very shocking incident, where there is a child who was walking along the harbor, suddenly touch foot anchor rope and he fell in and drowned and died .. what makes people confused at the time it is, because it does not fall far from the boy's swimming athlete who was sitting, but he did not try to help this child, this child's parents reported this to the poloisi org and brought to trial but he is free because he thinks he's helping or not he is right .. so if he does not help is not the problem ...
Do we want to be like this young man, seeing the little boy died while we could help him. Brother. Many Christians are like this young man, who saw people living in sin, we know that he would die in his sin, but he did not try to help him, to escape from sin, we even let him continue living in sin.
Many Christians, see the sin but not to mourn the sins committed by relatives seimannya but merely sympathize ... sometimes I see people die when there is a lot of people say sorry or from company-company to send flowers or just sympathize I'm so sorry .. often wondered to myself whether they really sorry, or just pushes .. or just a campaign, or perhaps even be grateful ... because there was one time a company leader dies, all the men looked sad but were thankful that a leader like to oppress employees.
Sorry, not just our sympathy, but also we should empathize, if only just sympathetic, maybe we just got to the mouth, but did not feel such grief. But we need to empathize with people who live in sin, because then we have the courage to act and advise the person who lives in sin.
Brother, if today we see that there are our brothers, far from God, living in sin, we must mourn over them. Not just sorrow but must have the courage to take them to come to God.
Then today, we see that the church no longer carry out the mission of God, we must mourn, we must dare to help remedy it back to the mission of the church of God. Just as the reformers is Martin Luther, Calvin etc. When they saw that the church no longer teaches the true word of God, the church has perverted the teachings of Avatar, so they dare to make one reform.
Likewise, when we hear these days there are many churches in Indonesia has taught courses that do not fit the word of God, many heresies that arise, misleading many people believe. One church with other church fellowship is no longer there, but that there is competition among Church leaders was not even a little church that had split. Do we mourn or not?
Brother, this month I think a lot of wrestling and my ministry and also the future of the church in the future, because one happened to be carrying the auspices of the church in the synod GKKB, there's a huge problem. Servant of his Lord had strayed from the teachings of God's word, is no longer running the priestly functions. Servant of God does not become servants of God again, but my money, no longer perform the function as a shepherd and a lot of morals and ethics violations. Last Sunday when I preached there, in a news advisers reveal all the errors and wrongdoing in the church ... honest I am very sad and sorrowful, because of what the board of this church, also struck me as a servant of God, and also reminded me that God's servants are ordinary human beings have weaknesses and limitations, and therefore we need to be careful. Reminds me that the church could be ruined if the leaders of the church, God's servants do not live according to God's word.
In the world of work .. whether we mourn, the people around us do untruth, do dishonesty, whether he's a friend of our work, our leaders, people close to us? Dear friends, When we see in the world of work we started there was an aberration, began the injustice, then we should mourn, when we reform our environment as possible, we will be challenged, perhaps we would be considered sacred, maybe we're not liked, and there lies our grief.
However, behind all the grief that we experience, we must believe that there is one consolation from God, that we will find .. as in John 16:20 Jesus said you shall weep and wail, still the world will rejoice; you will grieve, but grief will be a joy.
Mr. Not easy to be grieved, for the sins of others, not easy to tell the truth, but you all are having, will change joy. All our sorrows will be a joy .. Sorrow over sin produces the joy of forgiveness and eternal life in the Lord Jesus.
Entertainment for us is the forgiveness and eternal life. God will transform into entertainment lament over sin because Jesus bore our sins in His death and giving life in his life
Conclusion:
What is meant by blessed are those who mourn? The word sorry, talking about grief over personal sin and also to see other people living in sin. A grieved by his personal sin, showing that he actually admitted, would regret all his sin, and will be updated and be guided by God. Therefore, with the humility he wanted God to change his life. This is what Jesus called the people happy.
Second: People who mourn the sins of others, is a person who really has a heart like Jesus. Heart who loves sinners, loving souls who know the love of God. Loving souls who walk in darkness and sin.
People like the above are saying jesus is happy and people will get comfort from God's eternal. It was a consolation of God's eternal salvation.
Dear friends, let us be always mourn the lives that are full of sin, let us mourn the people who live in darkness and sin, because that's what God wants for us. Amen.
